Sangkuriang Train Passengers Reach 64,248 During First Month of Operation

Jember, East Java — The number of passengers on the Sangkuriang train service, operating on the Ketapang-Bandung (round trip) route, reached 64,248 people during its first month of operation since 2 May 2026.

“The high public interest demonstrates that the Sangkuriang train is becoming a preferred transportation choice for long-distance travel connecting West Java and East Java,” said Cahyo Widiantoro, Manager of Legal and Public Relations for Daop 9, in Jember, East Java, on Tuesday.

Based on collected data for the Bandung-Ketapang route, Jember Station was the most popular arrival destination with 3,952 passengers, followed by Ketappang Station which served 2,918 passengers. Regarding departures, Jember Station was the most popular starting point with 4,332 passengers, followed by Banyuwangi Kota Station with 3,193 passengers.

“We appreciate all passengers who have chosen the Sangkuriang train as their mode of transport. The high number of passengers in the first month of operation is evidence that this service has been well-received by the public,” he stated.

According to Widiantoro, the introduction of the compartment suite service has also been a major attraction for customers seeking long-distance travel with more modern, comfortable, and futuristic facilities.

Looking ahead, KAI Daop 9 Jember is committed to continuing to provide the best service to customers through various innovations, facility upgrades, and the strengthening of safety and security aspects during travel. The Sangkuriang train features a modern and diverse fleet, consisting of one compartment carriage with a capacity of 16 seats offering privacy and exclusivity, four stainless steel executive carriages with a total of 200 seats (50 seats each), and three stainless steel economy carriages with a total of 240 seats (80 seats each).

During its journey, the Sangkuriang train covers a distance of 1,002 kilometres, passing through Jember, Lumajang, Surabaya, Solo, Yogyakarta, Ciamis, and Tasikmalaya, before reaching its final destination in Bandung.
