PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daerah Operasi 9 Jember has opened a new long-distance train route from Ketapang, Banyuwangi to Bandung, West Java, round trip. The Ketapang–Bandung route will be served by KA Sangkuriang, scheduled to start operating from Ketapang Station on 2 May 2026. The introduction of KA Sangkuriang provides a new alternative for the public who wish to travel directly from the eastern tip of Java to Bandung without transiting. Manager of Legal and Public Relations for Daop 9 Jember, Cahyo Widiantoro, stated that the opening of this route is intended to increase inter-regional connectivity while providing convenience for customers. “With the direct Ketapang–Bandung route without transit, customers now have a more practical travel option,” said Cahyo on Tuesday (21/4/2026). In addition to serving passenger mobility, KAI assesses that this route has the potential to support the tourism sector in the areas it traverses, including from Banyuwangi to West Java. To attract public interest, KAI is offering a 50% discount on the inaugural journey for the Bandung–Ketapang route, scheduled for 1 May 2026.
