Sanggar Suara Kanti from Gianyar District introduced the region’s distinctive Angklung Kebyar during the Angklung Parade at the 48th Bali Arts Festival (PKB) in Denpasar on Tuesday. The performance’s choreographer, I Gusti Ngurah Agung Giri Putra, stated that the piece highlighted the character of Gianyar’s Angklung Kebyar while maintaining regional identity amidst artistic creativity. He explained that their uniqueness lies in the dynamic processing of the percussion, the melodic character of Gianyar’s Angklung Kebyar, and the harmonious blend of music, movement, and the performers’ expressions. For this PKB 2026 opportunity, they sought to emphasise regional identity without eliminating space for creativity. Giri Putra noted that the preparation process took approximately five months, although the studio members had already been training intensively on a regular basis. The group performing at the PKB consisted of 30 musicians, 13 dancers, and 15 other crew members. He assessed that the Bali Arts Festival serves as an important platform for the preservation and development of Balinese traditional arts, providing space for artists to create and exchange inspiration. He expressed hope that the performance would encourage the public, particularly the younger generation, to help sustain the Angklung Kebyar tradition, which is seeing a decline in enthusiasts.
