Former Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno emphasised the importance of the younger generation’s role, particularly Gen Z, in driving the growth of green investment in the country. According to him, for this generation, sustainability is a necessity, not just a passing trend. He made the remarks at a general meeting of shareholders for the testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) company PT Mutuagung Lestari Tbk (MUTU) in the Cimanggis area, Depok, on Thursday (4/6/2026). “The global trend, including in Indonesia, shows that Gen Z now considers green investment a necessity, no longer just a fleeting trend. Indonesia has significant momentum in this regard,” Sandiaga said in Cimanggis, Depok, on Thursday (4/6/2026). He expressed appreciation for the company’s transformation, which has now evolved from merely a certification body into a green sustainable partner. Sandi, as he is familiarly known, observed the company’s strategic steps in responding to global dynamics, particularly related to green economy and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues. According to him, Indonesia has now successfully shifted the sustainability narrative from a purely environmental issue to a tangible economic opportunity. “Indonesia’s green economy issue has moved from being just a sustainability issue to one that provides business opportunities, creates jobs, and even opens up wider funding access,” said Sandi. He further stressed that the company is currently on a strategic path. The company’s business model shift, which initially focused only on checking and inspection services, has now expanded into the full spectrum of ESG and green economy services. He also signalled a strategic collaboration plan between himself and MUTU, which is currently in the finalisation stage. “I hope that with the process being finalised in the coming weeks, I can soon make an announcement regarding our cooperation plan,” added the former Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta.
