A fire struck a sandal factory located on Jalan KH Agus Salim, Poris Plawad Urban Village, Cipondoh District, Tangerang City, Banten, in the early hours of Monday (22/6). Thick black smoke was seen billowing high from the factory area as flames engulfed the buildings. The blaze quickly intensified and razed at least three structures within the sandal factory complex. The abundance of flammable materials and substances on site caused the fire to spread rapidly. The situation raised concerns as the fire location is in a fairly dense area and close to other buildings. To bring the flames under control, 95 personnel were deployed to the scene. Officers also dispatched 19 fire engines belonging to the Tangerang City Government to accelerate the extinguishing process and prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding buildings. Andia Rahman, Head of Logistics and Emergency at the Tangerang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), stated that the officers’ current focus is ensuring the fire does not spread to other buildings. Meanwhile, the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. ‘The primary step taken is to localise the fire so it does not spread to other buildings. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by officers,’ said Andia. There were no fatalities or injuries in the incident. The case of the sandal factory fire is currently being handled and investigated by the Tangerang City Metro Police to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
