Doha (ANTARA) - President Masoud Pezeshkian has asserted that Iran no longer trusts the negotiation process with the United States following Washington’s attacks and sanctions against Tehran.

“We do not trust the American side and do not know on what basis an understanding with them will be achieved,” President Pezeshkian stated to Al Jazeera in an interview broadcast on Saturday.

At the same time, Tehran has conveyed a message to Washington through mediators in Qatar and Pakistan, and most importantly, expects the American side to clarify its position regarding the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was previously reached, he said.

Pezeshkian further stated that he sees no need to meet President Donald Trump as long as the US has not fulfilled previously signed agreements.

The US-Iran conflict erupted after Washington, alongside Israel, unilaterally attacked several locations in Iran on 28 February. This US and Israeli military aggression triggered retaliatory strikes from Iran.

After months of mutual attacks, Iran and the US agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding to cease hostilities in mid-June.

Despite the existence of that memorandum of understanding, armed conflict between the two nations has flared up again and remains unresolved to this day.
