Jakarta (ANTARA) - The technology company Samsung is reportedly preparing a new strategy to introduce higher-performance RAM into its new gadget releases. According to Sammobile, on Saturday (18/4) local time, the strategy involves accepting final orders for the outdated LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X DRAM technologies. LPDDR4 DRAM, released in 2014 (with data transfer speeds of around 3200-3733 Mbps), while LPDDR4X DRAM was released in 2017 (with data transfer speeds up to 4266 Mbps). Both are RAM types commonly found in mid-range and low-end gadgets. The report states that after Samsung accepts the final orders for the outdated DRAM and completes them, the company will officially cease production of both types of RAM. In more detail, production of LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X DRAM will continue until the end of this year to fulfil these final orders. Samsung is expected to convert production lines starting from the first quarter of next year. This will result in performance differences in subsequently produced device units, such as the Galaxy A17, which will switch from old DRAM to LPDDR5, offering data transfer speeds around 50 percent faster than LPDDR4X. The gradual elimination of old memory products frees up production capacity for Samsung, which can then be used for producing more profitable and advanced memory. Given the high demand for memory semiconductors currently, along with the higher prices accompanying it, this initiative will greatly help Samsung generate more revenue from the ongoing super cycle of memory semiconductors. For consumers, this is also quite beneficial as Samsung switches to the faster LPDDR5 DRAM standard even for its more affordable devices.
