Samsung to Remove This App from Phones in July 2026, Here's the Replacement

Samsung will shut down its own instant messaging app in July 2026. The platform will be replaced with Google Messages.

Samsung recommends that users of Samsung Messages switch to Google Messages as the main messaging platform, according to the company’s official announcement, quoted by Engadget on Monday (6/4/2026).

The exact date for the app’s discontinuation has not yet been announced. Engadget states that this information will be provided in the app itself.

So far, Samsung Messages is still available in the Galaxy Store app shop.

Meanwhile, there are some concerns regarding the use of Google Messages by Samsung Messages users in the United States (US). They will receive RCS messages, thus gaining the ability to send high-quality media, join group chats, and have real-time typing indicators regardless of the operating system used.

However, some features of Samsung Messages will be lost, such as several app customisation options. These features will be replaced with Generative AI from Gemini, which can rearrange photos in chats.

Google Messages also has other capabilities, such as making it easier for smartphone users to switch chats from smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches.

Signs that Samsung plans to discontinue Samsung Messages have been evident in recent years. The app has stopped being pre-installed on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6, as well as the Galaxy S25.
