Samsung to invest Rp17.8 trillion in AI infrastructure company
Samsung Group announced on Tuesday (29/9) that it will invest a total of US$1 billion, or approximately Rp17.8 trillion, in Helix Digital Infrastructure, a US-based artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure company backed by private equity firm KKR & Co.
Six Samsung affiliates—namely Samsung Electronics Co., Samsung C&T Corp., Samsung SDS Co., Samsung SDI Co., Samsung Life Insurance Co., and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Co.—will participate in the investment, Samsung stated in a press release.
Samsung Electronics will contribute US$500 million, or about Rp8.9 trillion, while the other five affiliates will collectively invest the remaining US$500 million.
The company is led by Adam Selipsky, the former CEO of Amazon Web Services. Nvidia serves as a strategic partner for Helix, while Vistra has been selected as the company’s preferred electricity partner.
Samsung stated that its six affiliates will join KKR, Nvidia, Vistra, and the Kuwait Investment Authority as founding investors in Helix through this investment.
Helix plans to address electricity availability, which remains one of the primary constraints in AI infrastructure development, through its own investments and its partnership with Vistra.
Through this investment, Samsung aims to seek synergies by connecting the technology and business capabilities of its affiliates with Helix’s infrastructure business, as reported by Yonhap on Tuesday (29/9).
