Samsung to Earn Rp 4.4 Million for Every iPhone Duo Sold: The Breakdown
Samsung is reportedly set to reap significant revenue from Apple’s first foldable device, the iPhone Duo. Samsung Display is said to have secured an exclusive three-year contract to supply foldable OLED panels for the iPhone Duo and subsequent foldable iPhone models.
This information originated from a post by supply chain leaker Instant Digital on Weibo. Apple has not yet confirmed the specific figures or the agreement.
According to OLED-Info, Apple is expected to order approximately 3 million display panels for the iPhone Duo in 2026. The value of the internal foldable screen panel for the device is estimated to reach US$250, or approximately Rp4.4 million per unit.
This price applies only to the main foldable screen. Based on reports from Tweaktown and Wccftech, citing Instant Digital, Apple is also said to be paying around US$80 for the external cover panel.
Consequently, the total cost for the iPhone Duo’s display components is estimated to reach approximately US$330 per unit, or about Rp5.8 million, before assembly costs.
The cost of the internal display panel is significantly higher than the OLED panels used in the iPhone 18 Pro Max. According to reports from VnExpress, Apple is expected to spend around US$70 for the OLED panel of that device.
If the reported retail price of the iPhone Duo reaches US$1,999, the US$250 internal display panel would account for approximately 12.5% of the device’s selling price.
The high cost of the panel is attributed to the complexity of foldable screens. MacRumors and the Times of India report that the iPhone Duo will be the first device to utilise Samsung’s M16 OLED material.
This new generation of material is claimed to improve brightness levels, colour accuracy, durability, and power efficiency compared to previous OLED materials.
The agreement also creates a unique situation for Samsung. Samsung’s display division receives payment for every panel used by Apple, while Samsung’s smartphone division continues to compete directly with the iPhone Duo through its Galaxy Z Fold line.
Samsung Display is reportedly the sole supplier capable of meeting Apple’s requirements for these panels. Meanwhile, LG Display and BOE are reported to be unable to meet Apple’s standards regarding brightness, durability, or production capacity.
This three-year exclusive contract means that Samsung Display’s revenue from Apple has the potential to scale alongside the production and sales volume of these foldable iPhones.
