Samsung Responds to Dua Lipa's Lawsuit: What Did They Say?
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Electronics giant Samsung has denied allegations of unauthorised image usage after pop singer Dua Lipa filed a lawsuit against the South Korean electronics company. The lawsuit concerns the alleged use of the artist’s photo on television packaging without permission.
In its official statement, Samsung denied all allegations of intentional misuse. The South Korean company stated that the image was obtained from a third-party content partner who claimed to have obtained permission for its use.
“The image of Dua Lipa was used in 2025 to reflect content from our third-party partner available on Samsung TV Plus, and was initially provided by the content partner for our free streaming service,” Samsung said in a statement, as reported by RTE on Friday (15/5/2026).
The company also explained that the image was only used after it received assurances from the content partner that permission for its use, including for retail boxes, had been obtained. “Based on this assurance, we deny all allegations of intentional misuse,” said Samsung.
Samsung stated that it respects Dua Lipa and the intellectual property rights of all artists. They are also open to resolving the issue constructively with Dua Lipa.
