Jakarta (ANTARA) - Samsung is reportedly developing a new tri-fold (tri-fold) smartphone concept with a wider design to improve user comfort.

According to a report from Gizmochina on Wednesday (15/4) local time, based on leaks from patent documents, the concept phone named Galaxy Z TriFold Wide introduces a different form factor compared to previous generations of Samsung’s tri-fold devices.

When folded, the device is designed to resemble a conventional phone with a slightly wider size, while when opened, it transforms into a large screen resembling a tablet.

This design is said to be a response to one of the main complaints about previous multi-fold devices, namely the screen aspect ratio considered less ideal for daily use.

Nevertheless, consumer interest in such phones remains high. Phones available only in limited stock are reported to sell out quickly, with resale prices increasing significantly.

This wider design concept also aligns with rumours of developments in Samsung’s other foldable phone lines, including the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is said to feature a more balanced screen ratio.

On the other hand, competition in the foldable device segment is intensifying. Huawei has already experimented earlier with wider foldable screen designs, while Apple is rumoured to enter the foldable phone segment in the near future.
