Samsung Officially Sells Refurbished Smartphones, Offering Cheaper Flagship Prices

Samsung has officially begun selling refurbished smartphones through its ‘Certified Re-Newed’ programme in India. Refurbished smartphones are pre-owned devices that have undergone a repair process by the official manufacturer, making them relatively more affordable than brand-new models.

In India, Samsung is offering refurbished devices ranging from mid-range to flagship series, including models such as the Galaxy A55 5G and the Galaxy S24 Ultra. For instance, a refurbished Galaxy A55 5G with 8 GB of RAM is priced at 31,499 rupees (approximately Rp 5.7 million), which is cheaper than the new version priced at 33,999 rupees (approximately Rp 6.2 million). Similarly, a refurbished Galaxy S24 Ultra with 256 GB of storage is sold for 97,499 rupees (approximately Rp 17.8 million), compared to the new price of 99,999 rupees (approximately Rp 18.3 million).

As is standard with refurbished devices, Samsung’s units undergo rigorous repair and testing before being sold to consumers. Specifically, these phones undergo a detailed process of inspection, cleaning, testing, and software validation at official Samsung facilities. Samsung ensures that its refurbished phones are restored using genuine Samsung parts. Each unit is also reset to erase previous user data and updated with the latest available software before sale.

According to the South Korean company, the ‘Certified Re-Newed’ programme was introduced in India to facilitate easier access to premium Galaxy devices for consumers while supporting a longer product lifecycle. Samsung’s refurbished phones are currently available in India via the local official Samsung website.
