Jakarta (ANTARA) - Samsung is reportedly not giving up on its tri-fold smartphone and is continuing development for the next generation, the Galaxy Z Trifold 2, which is being prepared to be thinner.

Although the first-generation tri-fold smartphone experienced production halts after three months on the market, the company appears not to have abandoned this model.

According to Gizmochina on Friday (20/3) local time, the latest information from a technology leaker indicates that the Galaxy Z Trifold 2 is already being worked on.

The leaker, from Korea and known as yeux1122, stated that the device is still in the early prototype stage, with the main focus on improving the hinge.

Most of the verification work on the new hinge design has been completed, which is believed to make Samsung’s next tri-fold smartphone much thinner and lighter.

This aspect is important because the first generation was quite thick at 12.9 mm when folded, making it feel impractical for daily use.

The Galaxy Z Trifold 2 is believed to achieve at least a slimness approaching the Galaxy Z Fold7, although it seems challenging given the more complex folding arrangement.

It is estimated that this phone will launch in mid-2027, assuming Samsung makes improvements in various aspects during that period, including durability and fold visibility.

Unlike the slider phone showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) recently, this slider phone will feature a manual sliding mechanism.

When pulled, the phone may have a 7-inch screen size, allowing it to function as both a phone and a small tablet.

With all these new trials, it is believed that Samsung has not given up on the idea of foldable and slider phones. Exploration is still ongoing, meaning this idea will not disappear anytime soon.
