Jakarta (ANTARA) - Samsung is reportedly planning to increase its investment in research and development (R&D) to lead the massive artificial intelligence (AI) competition in the technology industry, particularly the semiconductor sector. Citing GSM Arena on Thursday (19/3) local time, the report was first reported by Reuters, stating that the investment value amounts to 110 trillion South Korean won (equivalent to Rp1.2 quadrillion). This plan was revealed through the company’s document submission, which also includes significant acquisition and merger steps by Samsung into companies in related fields such as robotics, medical technology, automotive electronics, and air cooling solutions. Therefore, the scale of this latest investment indicates a significant increase of around 21 per cent and signals Samsung’s growing interest in AI development. In addition to investment efforts, to lead the AI-related competition, the company from the Land of the Morning Calm recently signed a memorandum of understanding with technology company AMD. That agreement resulted in Samsung’s decision to supply HBM4 chips to AMD, which are planned to be used in AI data centres. This effort demonstrates Samsung’s step as one of the world’s largest memory chip producers.
