Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 poised for price increases
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Samsung is expected to raise prices for several variants of its latest generation foldable phones, namely the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8, following increases in component production costs. Citing Gizmochina’s report, on Friday (22/5) local time, South Korean media Newspim says Samsung is facing price increases for chipsets and memory ahead of the launch of its latest foldable line. Nevertheless, Samsung is reportedly still seeking to keep prices for the base storage model. The price increases are expected to be more pronounced for higher-capacity variants, such as 512GB and 1TB. In terms of specifications, several leaks suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series is likely to bring only minor upgrades with a focus on design refinement rather than major changes from the previous generation. Improvements to the crease on the display are also said not to have undergone significant changes compared with the older model. Additionally, support for the S Pen and Samsung’s latest Privacy Display technology are reportedly not yet present on the devices, which is believed to be part of the company’s cost-efficiency strategy. Samsung is expected to unveil its latest foldable phone line at the end of July at the Galaxy Unpacked event held in London. If the price leaks are accurate, the base Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to be priced at $1,999 or around Rp33 million. Meanwhile, higher-capacity variants are expected to sell at higher prices targeting the ultra-premium segment. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 series is also said to potentially see a slight price increase depending on storage configuration.
