Samsung Addresses Price Gap for Galaxy Z Fold8 in South Korea
Samsung’s co-CEO and Head of Device Experience Division, Roh Tae-moon, has addressed the significant price gap for the new Galaxy Z Fold8, which is being sold considerably cheaper in South Korea compared to global markets. In South Korea, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is priced starting from 2.58 million won (approximately Rp 31.6 million). In contrast, the same device costs US$2,099 (approximately Rp 37.6 million) in the United States and 2,199 euros (approximately Rp 44.8 million) in Europe, representing premiums of 20.4% and 44% respectively. The standard Fold8 model shows an even starker difference, priced at the equivalent of US$1,541 (Rp 27.6 million) domestically, compared to US$1,899 (Rp 34 million) in the US and US$2,280.95 (Rp 40.8 million) in Europe.
Roh explained that the domestic pricing strategy acknowledges the Korean market as the foundation of the Galaxy brand. He emphasized that the company is committed to offering its devices at the most competitive prices in its home country and intends to maintain this approach. Roh noted that Samsung is currently facing cost pressures due to rising memory prices since the beginning of the year. While the company has absorbed most of the increase through supply chain optimization and collaboration with component suppliers, some of the additional costs have inevitably been reflected in the launch prices of new devices. He assured that Samsung will continue to work with partners to minimize the impact on customers, stating that the goal is not to pass the entire burden onto consumers but to make Galaxy innovations accessible to as many people as possible.
