Sampit Port Authority Issues Shipping Advisory Warning of Wildfire Smoke
The Sampit Port Authority (KSOP) has issued a shipping advisory warning all vessels to be vigilant regarding the thick smoke from forest and land fires (karhutla) currently affecting the area. The advisory was issued to prevent maritime accidents due to reduced visibility. The Head of KSOP Sampit, Jece Juliant, stated that the warning was disseminated to all ship operators, agents, and port users. He urged ship captains to reduce speed and turn on navigation lights when visibility is limited. Based on observations, the smoke haze has begun to disrupt visibility in the waters around the Sampit Bay area. The advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve and visibility returns to normal.
