Sampang People's School Designed to Accommodate 1,000 Students

Indonesia’s Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos RI), Saifullah Yusuf, stated that the People’s School building currently under construction by the government in Sampang Regency, East Java, is designed to accommodate as many as 1,000 students. “Sampang Regency is the only regency on Madura Island that has undertaken the construction of the People’s School building, because the Sampang Regency Government is the most prepared to provide land for the People’s School,” he said during an inspection of the building’s progress in Batukarang Village, Camplong Subdistrict, Sampang, on Sunday. The People’s School building in Batukarang Village covers an area of 10.4 hectares, larger than the initial plan of only 6 hectares. According to the Minister, he deliberately visited the construction site directly to ensure the project runs smoothly in line with the set target, namely by the end of June 2026. He explained that Sampang Regency is the only area in Madura with a permanent building for the People’s School. Currently, the construction process of the building has reached 35 percent. Meanwhile, the other three regencies, namely Bangkalan, Pamekasan, and Sumenep Regencies, are still in the pioneer school stage. “It is planned that for the 2026-2027 academic year, students of the People’s School from the four regencies in Madura are planned to be temporarily placed in the Sampang building facilities while waiting for the construction of buildings in other regencies to be completed next year,” he said. Before going to Sampang, the Minister first conducted a working visit to Pamekasan Regency, held a meeting with the companions of the Family Hope Programme, and met with students and teachers of the People’s School from Pamekasan, Sumenep, and Bangkalan Regencies.
