Sampang begins distributing clean water aid to drought-affected villages

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sampang Regency, East Java, has begun distributing clean water aid to a number of drought-affected villages in the area.

“For the time being, the distribution of aid is in two sub-districts, namely Sreseh Sub-district and Karang Penang Sub-district,” said Mohammad Hozin, Head of Emergency and Logistics at BPBD Sampang, in Sampang on Saturday.

He explained that the distribution of clean water aid in Sreseh Sub-district was carried out in Bujeen Hamlet, Palasah Village, while in Karang Penang Sub-district it was in Beduek Hamlet, Karang Penang Onjur Village.

“The distribution of aid that we began on Friday (28/8) is being carried out in stages according to the level of need of the community in the field,” he said.

“We continue to monitor the development of the drought conditions and are ready to increase distribution if community needs rise. We also urge village governments to report immediately if there are other areas experiencing a clean water crisis,” he said.

BPBD Sampang has confirmed that the distribution of clean water will continue throughout the dry season, with the hope that the clean water needs of communities in affected areas can be met until conditions return to normal.

Meanwhile, according to data from BPBD of the Sampang Regency Government, the number of villages prone to drought and clean water shortages during this dry season is 78 villages, spread across 12 sub-districts out of a total of 14 sub-districts in the area.
