Samarinda readies 'Sekolah Rakyat' building to welcome new students

Samarinda (ANTARA) - The Samarinda City Government has confirmed the readiness of the Sekolah Rakyat building infrastructure located in Palaran District to welcome new students for the 2026/2027 academic year. “We are committed to ensuring that this educational facility is ready for use when the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) begins,” said Samarinda Deputy Mayor Saefuddin Zuhri in Samarinda on Wednesday. The permanent building is situated in Palaran District, Samarinda City, established on a seven-hectare plot of land with a building area reaching 27,498.18 square metres. The construction of this integrated institution is projected to become a model Sekolah Rakyat for the East Kalimantan Province region. “Project management must accelerate the completion of crucial civil construction works as there are only six days left for execution,” Saefuddin stressed. The outreach to children from underprivileged families is the local government’s strategy to provide certainty of access to proper and high-quality teaching. “On behalf of the Samarinda City Government, we express our appreciation and gratitude to President Prabowo Subianto and the Task Force for the Acceleration of Sekolah Rakyat Infrastructure Development,” said Saefuddin. The capacity for new students at the Sekolah Rakyat has been allocated proportionally with a student quota of 210 individuals. All students who pass the screening process from the lowest welfare decile groups will later be placed in the permanent Palaran facility. The allocation of new student capacity for Sekolah Rakyat in Palaran, Samarinda, for the Primary School level is set at 60 seats, covering 55 children from Samarinda and five students from surrounding districts. The intake of seats for the Lower Secondary School level is recorded as being absolutely centralised for 60 school-age students in the provincial capital. At the Upper Secondary School level, the largest capacity is provided for 90 students, accommodating 80 local Samarinda teenagers and 10 students from neighbouring areas. “Close cooperation from all parties determines the future success of our children so that they obtain their basic right to education,” concluded Saefuddin.
