Samarinda Doctor Suspended After Commenting on BPJS Patient Who Later Died

The management of RSUD IA Moeis in Samarinda has examined a doctor with the initials RM following his comments on a social media post by a BPJS patient who subsequently passed away. The doctor came under scrutiny after the patient, Yurizal Tri Chaerawan, died not long after his post went viral. Yurizal had written that he had been waiting eight hours for a treatment room, adding that he would not name the hospital because he was using the national health insurance scheme, BPJS. The post triggered a variety of responses from netizens, including several comments believed to be from healthcare workers, one of whom was RM. The patient’s death shortly after the post went viral sparked a wave of criticism directed at comments perceived as lacking empathy. Hospital director Dr Osa Rafsodia confirmed that one of the accounts drawing public attention belonged to a doctor working at the facility. ‘The individual concerned has been summoned and processed in accordance with employee disciplinary regulations. The doctor has also conveyed an apology to the hospital,’ he stated. As a follow-up, management has decided to temporarily stand the doctor down for a few days pending the outcome of the internal investigation. ‘We are resting him for about two to three days for now. We have also reported this matter to the Regional Inspectorate,’ he explained.
