Samarinda Airport cancels Jakarta routes due to Anak Krakatau eruption

The management of the APT Pranoto Class IA Airport Service Unit (UPBU) in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, has announced the temporary suspension of several flight schedules on routes to and from Jakarta due to the impact of the Mount Anak Krakatau eruption.

The Head of the APT Pranoto Class IA UPBU, I Kadek Yuli Sastrawan, explained in Samarinda on Sunday that the flight cancellations were necessary to prioritise the safety of all passengers and crew.

“The distribution of volcanic ash and thick smoke in the flight paths is considered to pose a fatal risk, as it has the potential to reduce pilot visibility and significantly disrupt aircraft engine performance,” he said.

The list of Samarinda–Jakarta (round-trip) flights affected by these operational cancellations includes Batik Air flights ID 6ឡើង56/6257 and ID 6677/6676, Citilink QG 423/422, and Garuda Indonesia GA 581/580.

To ensure certainty and protect consumer rights, Kadek urged passengers whose flight schedules have been cancelled to be proactive in coordinating with the respective airlines.

“Passengers are advised to immediately contact the airlines for rescheduling, refunds, or further assistance,” he stated.

As a guide, passengers can contact Batik Air customer service at 021-6379 8000, Citilink at 0804-1-080808, and Garuda Indonesia at 0804-1-807-807 or +62 21 2351 9999. Additionally, direct information and assistance can be obtained through Customer Service officers on duty at the APT Pranoto Airport departure terminal.

Although the Jakarta routes have been temporarily suspended, the airport authorities ensured that flight operations to destinations other than Jakarta, such as Surabaya and Yogyakarta, continue to operate normally according to schedule.
