Salman ITB Mosque has received support through the Rainwater and Ablution Water Recycling Sustainability programme from Pegadaian, channelled through Wakaf Salman (Salman Endowment) on Thursday, 6 March.

The programme was initiated as a demonstration of commitment to sustainable water resources management and reduction of clean water consumption whilst supporting environmental preservation efforts through the processing of light wastewater into reusable water.

“We recognise that water can be recycled, and there is technology available to purify water for reuse. This reflects our desire to ensure sustainable benefit from what Allah has provided to us,” stated Beni Martina Maulan, Head of Pegadaian’s Islamic Business Unit Division, in a statement released on Sunday, 8 March.

Maulan further explained that this collaborative programme represents a concrete step towards environmental preservation, particularly within mosque facilities. By implementing the Rainwater and Ablution Water Recycling Sustainability programme at Salman ITB Mosque, all worshippers performing ablution automatically contribute to groundwater and surface water conservation in Bandung, where water resources are becoming increasingly limited.

Similarly, Wahyu Srigutomo, Chair of Wakaf Salman, described this initiative as Salman ITB Mosque’s move towards a Green Mosque concept.

“Beyond the Rainwater and Ablution Water Recycling Sustainability programme, other sustainability initiatives have already begun operating, including waste segregation within the mosque premises and the utilisation of solar panels,” he explained.

Both Srigutomo and Maulan expressed their hope that this collaboration would serve as a lasting charitable contribution providing wide-ranging benefits to the community. The inauguration ceremony was conducted symbolically with a ribbon-cutting, followed by a joint prayer led by the Dakwah (Islamic Outreach) Division of Salman ITB Mosque.
