Sales of used EVs rise as buyers seek more efficient vehicles
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The trend of used electric vehicles is starting to show growing interest in the domestic automotive market, with several sellers revealing that used electric cars are increasingly in demand among consumers, particularly amid rising fuel prices. Online used-vehicle sellers, Fariz Czaesariyan, said demand for pure electric used vehicles has risen quite aggressively in recent times. “For now the used EV segment is clearly the one being chased by many prospective buyers. Because fuel prices are also tending to rise. Then the trend of used EVs that are ‘well known’ for their depreciation value is fairly high, which becomes an extra attraction for prospective buyers,” Fariz told ANTARA in Jakarta, on Tuesday. This is driven by operational efficiency considerations amid adjustments to non-subsidised fuel prices, especially for diesel variants. Meanwhile, conventional fuelled vehicles, particularly diesel, are experiencing a slowdown in sales in the used car market. “For now, in the ICE used car segment in the Rp200 million to Rp300 million price range it is very quiet indeed,” he said. Similar complaints were voiced by Khayangan Garage owner, Juan Darmawan. He admitted that used car sales at his business have fallen by up to 40 percent compared with previous months. According to him, the diesel vehicle segment is the most affected, “Clearly diesel mobkas sales are falling due to the impact of rising fuel prices.” Nevertheless, Juan regards the situation as part of a market dynamic that has occurred before. Moreover, the public is currently more likely to prioritise spending on essentials.
