Salaries and price hikes
Salaries and price hikes
From Media Indonesia
The government's decision to raise civil servants' salaries by
10 percent has received mixed reactions for the following
reasons:
* While the salary increase has yet to be implemented, the prices
of daily commodities have already gone up by 10 percent. This
means that the salary rise, when implemented, will not mean much.
* Korpri, the organization of civil servants, would like the
salaries of civil servants to be raised twice as much, something
next to impossible because of the government's shortage of
financial reserves.
It would be a good idea for the government to stabilize the
prices of daily commodities when it decides to raise the salaries
of civil servants. Otherwise, the increase will have little
meaning.
