TOKYO (Reuters): Japan's vice finance minister for
international affairs, Eisuke Sakakibara, will visit Indonesia
from Friday and then travel to the United States, where he is
likely to meet U.S. Treasury officials, a Ministry of Finance
(MOF) official said on Thursday.
Sakakibara will discuss Japanese financial assistance with
Indonesian officials as well as the issue of an Asian fund to
stabilize regional financial markets, the official told Reuters.
Following the Indonesia visit, Sakakibara will travel to the
United States, where he will be attending a number of symposiums,
the official said.
He is also likely to meet Treasury officials, although details
have not been finalized.
"Although it has not been finalized, it is safe to say that he
will meet Treasury people," the official said.
In addition to giving a speech at the University of Michigan,
his alma mater, Sakakibara will be attending a financial
symposium in New York on Nov. 5, he said.
