PT Saka Energi Indonesia (SAKA), the upstream oil and gas arm of Pertamina’s Gas Subholding, has stated that the approval of the Plan of Development (POD) for the Ronggolawe PHE-7 field in the Pangkah Block by SKK Migas supports the company’s production increase strategy. SAKA Director of Exploration and Development Fuji Koesumadewi said the company continues to strengthen its commitment to exploration and exploitation activities as an active participation in maintaining national energy security. “This POD approval is an important step in SAKA’s efforts to accelerate the development of oil and gas resources into production that provides added value for the company,” she said. The field is planned to begin production by the end of 2029.

Fuji said the POD approval was supported by comprehensive analysis results from the RGL-3 well, providing a strong technical basis for the field development plan. Previously, in 2025, SAKA had submitted the determination of exploration status document for the Ronggolawe Field as a follow-up to the successful hydrocarbon discovery at the RGL-1 exploration well in 2012, which was later confirmed through the RGL-3 appraisal well activities in 2024 in the Pangkah Working Area. “The development of this field is projected to contribute production of up to 5,126 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) at its peak production period,” Fuji explained. Overall, she added, the field is estimated to have resources reaching 10 million barrels of oil that can be utilised until the end of the cooperation contract period, thus expected to support efforts to increase national oil and gas production.

The presence of hydrocarbons in the Ronggolawe structure was identified in the CD carbonate layer. This potential was proven through a series of technical evaluations, including drill stem tests, reservoir pressure testing, and fluid sampling and analysis. “The evaluation results show the field’s prospective potential for further development,” Fuji stated. In the approved development plan for the Ronggolawe PHE-7 Field, four development wells will be drilled and subsequently connected to existing production facilities in the Pangkah Working Area via a subsea pipeline network. The development of the Ronggolawe PHE-7 Field is a unitisation strategy between the Pangkah Working Area and the West Madura Offshore Working Area, which is operated by PT Pertamina Hulu Energi WMO. This is also in line with SAKA’s efforts to optimise production in the Pangkah Working Area while accelerating the monetisation of exploration discoveries into producing fields. “In its implementation, SAKA will continue to prioritise cost and operational efficiency and effectiveness, while upholding aspects of work safety and environmental protection,” Fuji added. With support from stakeholders and working partners, the development of the Ronggolawe PHE-7 Field is expected to become one of the drivers of the company’s and the nation’s oil and gas production growth. “Beyond that, SAKA is committed to ensuring that every development undertaken provides sustainable benefits for the environment and communities around the operational areas,” Fuji said.
