Sailfin Catfish Captured in North Jakarta Predicted to Exceed 200 Kg
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung directly inspected the capture of sailfin catfish in Jalan Janur Elok VI Blok QD9, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Friday (17/4/2026). From the activity, Pramono predicted that the amount of fish captured would exceed 200 kilograms. “Initially, we estimated it might only be around 150 kilograms. But from what we saw at the end, it’s definitely over 200 kilograms,” Pramono said at the location on Friday. In addition to impacting the ecosystem, Pramono also warned of the dangers of sailfin catfish if consumed. He stated that the residue content in the fish is relatively high and poses a risk to health. “On average, it’s already above 0.3 residue levels. That’s very dangerous if consumed,” Pramono continued. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will continue to intensify the capture of sailfin catfish routinely and not just ceremonially. In the future, Pramono will assign Public Facilities and Infrastructure Handling Officers (PPSU/PJLP) specifically to address the sailfin catfish problem. “We will assign special PJLP to reduce the dominance of sailfin catfish in rivers and drains,” he said. However, the government is also open to other utilisations, such as turning it into organic fertiliser.
