Sail away with President

JAKARTA: President Megawati Soekarnoputri is scheduled to address Nusantara Day on Thursday, after taking a 30-minute ride on the Navy's Antasena warship from the old port of Sunda Kelapa to Marina Ancol recreation resort in Jakarta Bay.

Over the course of the 30-minute ride, 102 boats will set sail in her honor, according to Col. Aji Sularso, organizing committee chairman of the celebration.

The event is billed as part of a day filled with activities in observance of the first Nusantara Day, which has been launched to promote the efforts at maintaining national unity.

Also taking part in the parade are boats belonging to the navy, the ministry of maritime and fishery affairs, the police, the office of customs and excise, city government and local fishermen.--JP
