Saiful Mujani's Statements Allegedly Inciting Rebellion to Overthrow Prabowo, Resulting in Report

Jakarta - Political analyst Saiful Mujani has been reported to the Metro Jaya Regional Police. The report concerns his statements deemed to incite rebellion or the overthrow of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration. The Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the report was received on Wednesday (8/4/2026) around 9:30 PM WIB. The complainant is from the East Jakarta Community Alliance, named Robina Akbar. In the report, Saiful is charged under Article 246 of Law No. 1 of 2023. Saiful Mujani’s statements went viral after a video clip was reposted by Ulta Levenia, Senior Expert Staff at the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), on her personal Instagram account @leveenia. “This is terrifying, the provocation is extraordinary, this can be called rebellion, safeguard the Unitary Republic of Indonesia,” read the caption on the shared video. The 35-second video clip shows Saiful speaking at a halal bihalal event. Saiful expressed his views on the national political situation and mentioned the need for consolidation to bring down the President. “Can we consolidate ourselves to bring down Prabowo? Only we can, the people, you know,” said Saiful. He also stated that advising the President would not be effective. Saiful assessed that efforts to bring down the President cannot be done through formal mechanisms such as impeachment in the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) on the proposal of the House of Representatives (DPR). “Advising Prabowo won’t work either. The only way is to bring him down. That’s saving, not saving Prabowo, but saving ourselves and this nation,” said Saiful.
