Jakarta, VIVA – Metro Jaya Regional Police admit to having received two police reports concerning political analyst Saiful Mujani’s statements, which are suspected of containing incitement to sedition.

The reports were filed by two different complainants and are currently being handled by investigators. This was revealed by the Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Commissioner Polosi Budi Hermanto.

“Yesterday, the second one came in, related to a report about two people, regarding an incident suspected of content on social media inciting sedition,” he said on Friday, 10 April 2026.

According to him, both reports were filed based on Article 246 of Law No. 1 of 2023. Nevertheless, the police are still conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain whether there are any criminal elements in the case.

“We are still delving into this police report,” he said.

Budi emphasised that every public report must be received by the police. However, not all reports will automatically proceed to the investigation stage.

“If no criminal elements are found, insufficient evidence, or no supporting witnesses, the case can be terminated,” he stated.

He also reminded the public not to drag this case into the realm of politics or SARA (ethnicity, religion, race, and inter-group relations) issues. In his view, the legal process must proceed objectively and transparently.

“We invite everyone to be wise, not to turn this report into criminalisation or bring it into SARA and political issues,” he said.

“This will also be thoroughly investigated by the investigators, and please, colleagues, monitor the investigation and prosecution processes for the cases being handled,” he added.

Previously reported, the controversy over a viral video involving political analyst Saiful Mujani has had long-reaching consequences. He has now been officially reported to the police for allegedly spreading narratives that point towards sedition.

The report was confirmed by the Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Commissioner Polosi Budi Hermanto. He stated that the report has been officially registered.

“True, reported on Wednesday, 8 April 2026 around 21:30 WIB,” he said on Thursday, 9 April 2026.

Budi explained that the report uses Article 246 of the Criminal Code, which regulates the suspicion of incitement to resist public authorities, with a maximum penalty of four years’ imprisonment.
