Saiful Mujani Reported to Polda Metro Jaya over Alleged Treason to Overthrow Prabowo

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Political analyst Saiful Mujani has been reported to the Metro Jaya Regional Police over allegations of treason after his statement calling for the downfall of President Prabowo Subianto went viral on social media.

The Head of Public Relations at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, confirmed the existence of the report.

He stated that the report was filed on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, around 9:30 PM WIB.

The report has been registered under number LP/B/2428/IV/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA, dated 8 April 2026.

In the report, the complainant is listed as Aliansi Masyarakat Jakarta Timur and implicates Saiful under Article 246 of Law No. 1 of 2023.

“Regarding Article 246 of UU 1/2023. The complainant is Robina Akbar from Aliansi Masyarakat Jakarta Timur,” Budi added.

A clip of the video was reposted by Ulta Levenia, Senior Expert Staff at the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), on her personal Instagram account @leveenia.

“This is terrifying; the provocation is extraordinary; this can be called treason; safeguard the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” read the caption accompanying the video.

In the 35-second video clip, Saiful was speaking at a halal bihalal event.

He also criticised Prabowo for not acting presidentially.

“Can we consolidate ourselves to bring down Prabowo? Only we can do it, the people,” Saiful said.

He also stated that efforts to advise the President would not be effective.

Saiful even assessed that the step to bring down the President could not be done through formal mechanisms such as impeachment in the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) on the proposal of the House of Representatives (DPR).

“If advising Prabowo doesn’t work either. The only way is to bring him down. That is saving, not saving Prabowo, but saving ourselves and this nation,” Saiful said.
