Saiful Mujani Reported Again to Bareskrim Over Alleged Treason

Professor of Political Science at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, Saiful Mujani, has been reported by Presidium Kebangsaan 08 to the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) over allegations of criminal treason and incitement. The report was submitted by the Chairman of Presidium 08, Kurniawan, and registered under number LP/B/146/IV/2026/SPKT/Bareskrim Polri. Kurniawan views the statements made by Saiful together with Islah Bahrawi as a form of incitement that creates unrest in society. According to him, the call to remove President Prabowo Subianto is no longer a form of freedom of expression in democracy. “They know what they are doing is wrong, but instead they build an alibi as if this is a democratic right,” he said to reporters at Bareskrim Polri on Wednesday (22/4). “Democracy has its limits. They have crossed the line and we will demand accountability, and hopefully what we want to make Indonesia fine we have done,” he added. Therefore, he urged Bareskrim Polri to immediately process the report to create a deterrent effect. Moreover, he said, the report has been filed since 10 April. “I am returning to Bareskrim Polri to inquire about the follow-up process of what we have reported. Because? We believe that preliminary evidence already exists,” he stated. Previously, Saiful Mujani emphasised that his statement calling for consolidation to bring down President Prabowo Subianto is not a form of treason, but part of political stance. According to him, political stance is one level below political participation or political action. Political participation, he said, is the core of democracy. Mujani stated there is no democracy without political participation. However, that statement has now resulted in a police report over alleged incitement. He is now facing two legal processes over alleged incitement stemming from his statements. Saiful Mujani has also been reported to Polda Metro Jaya over alleged incitement against the authorities stemming from statements narrated as inviting to bring down President Prabowo Subianto. The report was filed by someone named Robina Akbar from Aliansi Masyarakat Jakarta Timur to Polda Metro Jaya over alleged incitement. The report was registered under number LP/B/2428/IV/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA, dated 8 April 2026.
