Said of PDIP: Prabowo's Plenary Address at the DPR to Answer Market Doubts
Said Abdullah, who chairs the DPR’s Budgetary Body and is a PDIP politician, said that Prabowo Subianto’s appearance—a new tradition in the DPR plenary session—carries deep significance. According to Said, Prabowo is present to answer market doubts about liquidity and national fiscal stability. He believes these doubts will be addressed in Prabowo’s speech in the plenary. ‘It seems the President is delivering a speech directly in the plenary on the macroeconomic framework and the main policies for 2027. It certainly carries a deep meaning, primarily to answer market doubts,’ Said told reporters ahead of the plenary at the parliamentary complex on Wednesday (20/5). Prabowo, in his speech, is said to discuss the Macro Economic Framework and the main fiscal policy. Said believes Prabowo will convey that the current state of the country’s finances is not detached from global geopolitical pressures. ‘Mr President will also convey that what we are experiencing today is not detached from geopolitical pressures and global circumstances, yes,’ he said. He recognises the many concerns among economists and investors about fiscal management. Yet, Said noted, the current fiscal deficit is just below 3 percent, and that is still in the first quarter. However, Said believes that by the end of 2026 the fiscal deficit will not reach 3 percent. He predicts the figure will cap at 2.6 percent. ‘Because the government is making its best effort to manage spending in Q1. But those concerns are unnecessary. We still have seven months left in the year, and I am confident that the highest deficit in the 2026 APBN will be around 2.55, a maximum of 2.6 percent,’ Said.
