Said Iqbal Set to be Inaugurated as Presidential Advisor for Labour Tomorrow
The President of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, has stated that the President of the Labour Party, Said Iqbal, is set to join the Red and White Cabinet and will be inaugurated on Monday, 8 June 2026. Andi Gani explained that according to information received, Said Iqbal is slated to serve as the Presidential Advisor for Labour. “Hopefully, Bung Iqbal will become the Presidential Advisor for Labour. As a labour movement, we fully support this,” Andi told reporters in Central Jakarta on Sunday, 7 June 2026.
Furthermore, Andi Gani expressed confidence that Said Iqbal would not abandon the labour cause despite joining the cabinet. He noted that other labour figures, such as Jumhur, would also maintain their ideological commitment to workers even while serving in government.
Regarding the possibility of Said Iqbal joining the cabinet, the Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, confirmed that discussions are currently underway. Speaking at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 4 June 2026, Prasetyo stated, “We are discussing it.” While he did not specify the exact position, he confirmed that any role assigned to Said Iqbal would be related to labour and employment issues.
Responding to the rumours, Said Iqbal confirmed that discussions regarding joining President Prabowo Subianto’s administration have taken place recently. While he did not disclose the specific details of the discussions, he hinted that his potential work would focus on labour-related issues.
