Said Iqbal Responds to Rumours of Joining Prabowo's Cabinet: Wait for Official Announcement
Said Iqbal, Chairman of the Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPI), has responded to rumours suggesting he will join the ranks of President Prabowo Subianto’s Cabinet. However, he is not yet prepared to provide detailed explanations and has asked the public to wait for an official announcement from the government.
“Let us just wait for the official announcement from the State Secretary on behalf of the President,” said Said Iqbal, as reported on Sunday (7/6).
When asked further regarding the news of his cabinet entry and the communications established with the Palace, Said Iqbal confirmed the reports without providing an extensive explanation, simply stating, “Yes.”
The labour leader has not yet revealed the specific position he might occupy. Nevertheless, he hinted that the responsibilities he would undertake would remain closely related to the issues that have been the focus of his struggle.
“It will likely involve labour issues,” he explained.
Previously, the government confirmed that discussions regarding Said Iqbal’s potential entry into the administration are ongoing. The Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, noted that the process is still in the discussion stage. According to Prasetyo, the prepared position would likely relate to the labour sector and worker protection, aligning with Said Iqbal’s track record and long-standing activities.
“We are currently discussing it. It will likely relate to his struggle so far, involving labourers and the workforce,” Prasetyo stated at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Thursday (4/6).
These statements have strengthened speculation regarding Said Iqbal’s involvement in the government. However, as of now, there has been no official announcement from the President or the Palace regarding the specific office he would hold.
