The President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) and the Labour Party, Said Iqbal, is reportedly set to be inaugurated as the Presidential Advisor for Labour Affairs on Monday (8/6).

‘Yes, that is the information (regarding the appointment as Presidential Advisor for Labour Affairs),’ confirmed the President of the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani, on Sunday (7/6). Andi expressed his full support for Said Iqbal joining the administration, believing that a labour figure within the government will remain committed to the struggle for workers’ rights.

‘It represents an extraordinary synergy between labour leaders choosing to be within the circle of power and those remaining outside the government, working together to support the struggle of Indonesian labour,’ he stated.

Previously, the Indonesian Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, had also hinted at the possibility of Said Iqbal joining the administration. While he declined to specify the exact role, Pras noted that discussions were ongoing and suggested the position would likely relate to Said’s long-standing involvement in labour and employment issues.

Meanwhile, Said Iqbal has declined to provide detailed explanations, advising the public to await an official announcement from the government. ‘Let us just wait for the official announcement from the State Secretary on behalf of the President,’ Said Iqbal said. When asked further regarding the news of his entry into the cabinet and the communications held with the Palace, Said Iqbal confirmed the reports without providing further elaboration.
