Said Iqbal Has Been Contacted by Palace Regarding Cabinet Appointment Plans

The President of the Labour Party, Said Iqbal, stated that he has been notified by the Presidential Palace regarding the plan to appoint him as a minister in President Prabowo Subianto’s Red and White Cabinet. “I have been informed by the palace,” Said Iqbal said when contacted on Friday, 5 June 2026.

However, Said declined to reveal when or by whom from the Palace he was contacted. The President of the Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPI) also did not specify which ministerial position he might be appointed to. “We shall just wait for the official announcement from the Minister of State Secretary on behalf of the President. It is likely related to labour issues,” Said remarked.

Nevertheless, Said dismissed rumours regarding his appointment as a tactic to prevent labour protests, asserting that his appointment would instead focus on strengthening the struggle for workers’ welfare.

Yesterday, the Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, signalled that Labour Party President Said Iqbal might join President Prabowo’s administration.
