The President of the Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPI) and the Labour Party, Said Iqbal, will be inaugurated as the Presidential Advisor for Labour Affairs on Monday afternoon. Said stated that he had been contacted by the Cabinet Secretary, Lt Col Teddy Indra Wijaya, regarding the appointment.

“The inauguration will take place at 16:30 at the Palace. I was called last night by the Cabinet Secretary, Lt Col Teddy. I will serve as the Special Advisor to the President of the Republic of Indonesia for Labour Affairs, with a position equivalent to a minister, in accordance with Presidential Regulation No. 137/2024,” Said said when contacted on Monday.

The possibility of Said Iqbal joining the government was previously disclosed by the Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi. He noted that the potential role relates to Said’s long-standing involvement in labour and workforce issues.

Meanwhile, the President of the Indonesian Confederation of All Trade Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani, expressed full support for Said Iqbal’s entry into the government. He believes that a labour leader within the administration will maintain his commitment and allegiance to the labour movement.

“It is an extraordinary synergy: labour leaders choosing to be within the circle of power and labour leaders choosing to remain outside the government, all supporting the struggle of Indonesian labour,” he said.
