Said Iqbal: 50,000 KSPI Workers to Celebrate May Day 2026 at Monas

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - As many as 50,000 workers affiliated with the Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPI) will participate in the International Labour Day (May Day) celebrations in 2026 at the National Monument (Monas) area in Jakarta on Friday (1/5/2026).

“The number of participants joining the May Day celebrations at Monas, particularly from KSPI, is 50,000 people. These 50,000 individuals are officially registered from Jabodetabek, Karawang, Purwakarta, Subang, Greater Bandung, and parts of Greater Cirebon, as well as participants from Serang, Cilegon, Cianjur, and Sukabumi,” said KSPI President and Labour Party leader Said Iqbal during an online press conference on Wednesday (29/4/2026).

This decision was made following a meeting between KSPI and the Labour Party with Prabowo on Tuesday (28/4/2026).

In the meeting, which lasted about one and a half hours, labour representatives conveyed various labour issues as well as expectations towards the government.

“KSPI, supported by the Labour Party, has decided to hold the May Day celebrations together with President Prabowo Subianto and other trade union friends at Monas,” he stated.

Said explained that the May Day action was initially planned to be held in front of the DPR RI building.

However, the plan was changed after KSPI had the opportunity to meet directly with the President before 1 May.

In that meeting, KSPI presented 11 labour issues or demands to the government.

According to Said, several important issues received direct responses from the President.

“From the 11 issues or 11 hopes brought by KSPI, supported by the Labour Party, there are several crucial issues that are very important for Indonesian workers that were answered and affirmed by President Prabowo Subianto,” he clarified.

KSPI considers May Day not merely a ceremonial celebration, but a momentum to convey workers’ aspirations to the government.

In addition to Jakarta, May Day celebrations will also be held in various regions across Indonesia.

KSPI together with the Labour Party stated that the actions will take place in 38 provinces and more than 350 districts/cities.
