Said Abdullah Allocates Recess Funds for Home Renovations in Madura

Member of Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Said Abdullah, conducted a working visit during the recess period to his electoral district (dapil) XI in East Java. During the visit, Said distributed recess funds to assist in the renovation of uninhabitable houses belonging to residents in Talango District, Sumenep Regency, Madura. The programme is aimed at low-income communities as an effort to improve the quality of housing.

Said channelled the home repair assistance to villagers from 19 hamlets across five villages, namely Onggan Padike, Jate Laok, Tanjung Alang, Jate Daya, Lembana, Galise Daya, Galise Laok, Sakola’an, Masjid, Baru, Gedungan, Guntong, Pesisir, Jeruk Porot, Sarotak, Andun, Jamaleng, and Sarotak.

‘This home renovation programme, funded by my DPR recess funds, has been distributed to five villages in Talango District, Sumenep Regency. This distribution also serves as a form of reporting to the public and public accountability as a member of the DPR,’ Said stated on Wednesday, 22 July 2026.

He explained that people have basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter. He considers these three to be the basic indicators of whether a person is categorised as poor or not. ‘The state has a responsibility to ensure the welfare of its people, so that they can meet their basic needs adequately,’ he said.

Said noted that nationally, the housing backlog remains very high, reaching 15 million units. This illustrates that the demand for housing is still very high, while availability is low. ‘Meanwhile, the number of people who already own a home but are categorised as living in uninhabitable conditions is even higher. National data on uninhabitable houses reaches 43.3 million households. In Madura itself, referring to BPS data, liveable houses only reach 71 per cent. This means 29 per cent of Madurese homes are uninhabitable. This figure is much lower compared to other areas in East Java, where the average liveable housing rate reaches 80 per cent,’ he said.

In response to these conditions, Said allocated his recess funds for this period to help renovate residents’ homes in Sumenep Regency. The aid was symbolically handed over on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, to residents on Talango Island.
