Said Abdullah Affirms PDIP's Position as a Balancing Party
PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) DPP Chairman Said Abdullah has confirmed that the party has decided on a political stance as a balancing force within the current administration. This position aligns with the decision made during the PDIP National Working Meeting (Rakernas).
“In accordance with the National Working Meeting decision, PDI Perjuangan has decided to position itself as a balancing party. This stance is not ambiguous. We cannot compare it to Western countries that operate an opposition system,” Said Abdullah stated on Thursday (18/6/2026).
He explained that this position requires PDIP to act objectively and proportionally. Said Abdullah elaborated that if the government introduces good policies for the people, PDIP will provide support. Conversely, if policies are deemed poor, the party will remind the government constructively.
“It was emphasised by Ibu Mega, the Chairperson, that being a balancer means being objective and proportional. This means if the government’s performance and policies are good for the people, PDI Perjuangan should naturally provide support until 2029, even though PDIP may not gain any electoral benefit from that good performance,” he clarified.
“On the other hand, if policies and performance are lacking, we will offer constructive reminders. In such a position, we may not necessarily gain electoral advantages either,” he added.
He stressed that being a balancing party does not equate to being an opposition. He noted that opposition is a political stance whose will is often completely contrary to the ruling government.
“As a balancer, PDI Perjuangan wants President Prabowo to serve well until 2029 in accordance with the rules outlined by our constitution. This differs from choosing an opposition stance. Opposition means a political will that is totally opposed to the ruling government. The opposition stance tends to pursue a path of highlighting the government’s weaknesses and shortcomings to achieve a negative electoral impact,” he explained.
According to him, PDIP’s current political stance is already understood by President Prabowo Subianto.
“President Prabowo himself deeply understands the political stance and choice taken by PDI Perjuangan. He even expressed gratitude for this stance and considers it a more honest form of friendship,” he remarked.
“The President is very aware that not all praise is good. Exaggerating praise, like a friend, can actually obscure the objectivity that the President truly needs,” he concluded.
