Sahroni's Tale of Being Extorted by a Fake KPK Employee Impersonating Leadership
Sahroni recounted that on Monday (6 April), the fake KPK employee came directly to the DPR RI building. At the time, Sahroni was leading a meeting. He received notification from his staff.
“The individual claiming to be a KPK employee, stating they were the Head of Enforcement, arrived at the DPR on Monday the 6th at 10.30 WIB. They came directly, from security entering the DPR up to the waiting room of Commission III,” said Sahroni when confirmed on Friday (10 April).
“I was leading a meeting, I didn’t have any appointment with anyone. But because my staff informed me via WhatsApp, I left the meeting room to approach that person,” Sahroni stated.
The NasDem politician said that the fake employee mentioned the name of a KPK leader. He immediately contacted the KPK to verify the truth. The KPK denied that the person who approached Sahroni was their employee. The anti-corruption agency then coordinated with Polda Metro Jaya.
“He claimed on behalf of the KPK leadership. Because it involved KPK leadership, I confirmed with the KPK leadership, is this person really from the KPK? Turns out not. So, I coordinated and clarified this with the KPK, and finally the KPK reported it to Polda Metro, and I reported the individual to Polda Metro,” Sahroni explained.
Sahroni stated that the fake KPK employee demanded Rp300 million. The reason, according to Sahroni, was to support the KPK leadership’s activities. Sahroni, who was suspicious, immediately coordinated with the KPK and concluded that the money demand was untrue.
“So after we checked everything, he was really bold. Directly, verbally demanding 300 million, he said, for the leadership, he said. ‘For the leadership for what?’ ‘This is support for the leadership’s activities.’ Because I felt suspicious, I held back but asked the KPK directly. Since it wasn’t true, the KPK coordinated with Polda Metro, and I reported him. Working together with the KPK and Polda Metro, the individual was finally caught at his home,” he revealed.
This NasDem Party General Treasurer clarified information claiming that the fake KPK employee extorted him over a case matter. Sahroni said the fake KPK employee demanded money in the name of the KPK leadership.
“But the news narrative is already different, as if handling a case. Who is handling a case? No case handling, he directly demanded money in the name of the KPK leadership. So no issue, he suddenly came directly mentioning demanding money worth Rp300 million for supporting KPK leadership activities,” Sahroni clarified.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo previously stated that four people were arrested in this case. Budi said that the four claimed to be KPK employees and could arrange case handling at the KPK.
“On Thursday night (9 April), a joint team from the KPK and Polda Metro Jaya Jakarta secured four individuals suspected of claiming to be KPK employees and able to arrange case handling at the KPK. The suspected perpetrators were secured in the West Jakarta area,” Budi said on Friday (10 April).
