Police have identified three suspects connected to a debt-collection operative who stabbed advocate Bastian Sori in Kelapa Dua, Tangerang. The South Tangerang Police Chief, AKBP Boy Jumalolo, said two other suspects are still at large, while one has been detained. Separately, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) has summoned PT Mandiri Tunas Finance to seek clarifications regarding the chronology of the stabbing case. In response to the incident, Ahmad Sahroni, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, urged the police to act decisively against all perpetrators without exception. “I urge the police to act decisively and arrest all offenders. Debt-collection practices that use violence like this cannot be tolerated. This is not just a violation of the law, but has entered the realm of premanism that threatens public safety. If left unchecked, these practices will continue to grow and be normalised,” Sahroni said in a statement on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. Furthermore, Sahroni criticised debt-collection practices that prioritise intimidation and violence as a bad habit that must not be allowed to grow. He said the state must be present to regulate collection patterns that fall outside legal norms. “I also call on the police (Polri) and OJK, with other parties, to evaluate and take firm action against financing companies that employ collectors with elements of premanism. If necessary, impose severe sanctions up to license suspensions. The state must be firm. We must not let the public continue to be victims of intimidation in the name of debt collection,” Sahroni said.
