Sahroni urges police to take firm action against 'thuggish' motorist in Jagakarsa

Jakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives Commission III Deputy Chairman Ahmad Sahroni has urged the police to take firm action against a Kawasaki Ninja motorcyclist who acted thuggishly in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, by assaulting another person on the road. “I appreciate the police for moving quickly to apprehend this thug. However, I also hope that the public does not feel they must first make an incident go viral before receiving justice,” Sahroni said in Jakarta on Monday. He commended the police for arresting the suspect, identified by the initials FRS, aged 37. He expressed concern that if such incidents are not dealt with firmly, they could foster a culture of thuggery. He stated that every report of violence on the streets must be responded to swiftly. Turning a blind eye to thuggish behaviour, he said, could lead to further criminal acts, as the perpetrator becomes accustomed to intimidating others. According to him, the thuggish actions displayed by the suspect are deeply disturbing to the community. The public, he said, must stand up to individuals who feel they are the most powerful on the roads. “Today he hits someone, tomorrow he could threaten with a weapon or commit even more extreme crimes. Therefore, the perpetrator must be processed according to the law to provide a deterrent effect for others,” he said. Police previously arrested the suspect, FRS, for assaulting a motorist, identified as AA, at Al Bainah Field, on Jalan Moch Kahfi II, Cipedak, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. “On Sunday, 5 July 2026, at around 9 p.m. Western Indonesia Time, the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Unit of the Jagakarsa Police Sector apprehended the perpetrator of the assault that went viral on social media,” said Jagakarsa Police Chief Kompol Nurma Dewi to reporters in Jakarta on Monday. She explained that the incident began on Saturday (4/7) at 11.30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time, when the victim was assaulted by an unknown man. The perpetrator was identified as riding a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle, wearing a greyish-blue t-shirt and cream-coloured shorts. The perpetrator then carried out the assault by repeatedly punching the victim with his bare fists, striking the left jaw area, causing the victim to suffer bruising and pain on the left side of his jaw.
