Sahroni Urges Police to Guarantee Street Workers' Safety: Eradicating Muggers Must Be a Priority

Police have arrested two suspects who mugged a package courier named Hasan Al Nazhari (25), who was sheltering from the rain, on Jalan Astanaanyar in Bandung City on Sunday, 3 May. Astanaanyar Police Chief, Kompol Fetrizal, stated that his team is still pursuing two other suspects, as CCTV footage shows four perpetrators collaborating in the attack on the victim. In response to this incident, Ahmad Sahroni, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, expressed his anger over the increasingly brutal criminal acts that are causing public unrest. He urged the police to guarantee the safety of street workers. “I demand that the police immediately prosecute all the perpetrators of this heinous robbery with the maximum punishment. Such firmness is essential to provide a sense of security for street workers from criminal terror. Especially since the victim is a package courier who was working to earn a halal livelihood, carrying entrusted goods from the public. Absolutely no mercy for the perpetrators,” Sahroni said in his statement on Monday, 4 May 2026. Sahroni stressed that law enforcement agencies play a key role in creating a sense of security for street workers who operate daily to meet their living needs. “Package couriers, ride-hailing drivers, public transport drivers—they work on the streets, serving the community’s needs diligently. The state must be present to guarantee their safety and security. Therefore, I urge the police to be firm so that no more workers become victims of muggers on the streets,” Sahroni added.
