Sahroni: TNI and Polri Must Be Loyal to the President

President Prabowo Subianto, during the TNI-Polri Prastya Perwira (Praspa) Ceremony at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, 22 July, called on the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) to continue strengthening professionalism and maintaining solidarity in carrying out their duties. The Head of State also stressed that no corps loyalty should override the interests of the nation. Additionally, Prabowo reminded the officers to uphold integrity and not abuse their positions.

Responding to this, House of Representatives Commission III Deputy Chairman Ahmad Sahroni stated that the President’s directive is crucial to ensure all defence and security institutions operate under a single command for the nation’s interest. “We in Commission III affirm that we agree and are in line with the president’s instruction that both the military and the police must not have narrow loyalties within their corps. Both must be loyal and subordinate to the president, who is clearly stipulated in law as the supreme leader of the TNI and Polri,” Sahroni said in his written statement on Wednesday, 22 July 2026.

Furthermore, Sahroni emphasised that loyalty to the President is also key to preventing the emergence of sectoral egos and friction between institutions. “There must be no strategic movements or activities outside the command and instruction of the president, especially those that contradict the president’s vision and mission. This is important to avoid potential friction that could occur between institutions if loyalty and command lie outside the president and are not under a single command,” he said. On this occasion, Sahroni also conveyed that Commission III, as a direct partner of the National Police, urges all Polri members to set aside narrow corps loyalty and sectoral egos.
