Sahroni Supports Police in Massively Installing CCTV in Jakarta to Prevent Mugging and Street Crime

Lately, cases of mugging and street crime have been rampant. The most recent incident involves the Central Jakarta Metro Police Resort still searching for the perpetrators who mugged a firefighter from the Johar Baru sector on Jalan KH Hasyim Ashari, Gambir Subdistrict, Central Jakarta.

Based on police investigations, CCTV footage has been found capturing the moments of the savage mugging carried out by a group of individuals against the firefighter with initials BM. The police have identified the suspects, believed to number six. The mugging occurred last Thursday, 2 April 2026.

This incident has drawn the attention of Ahmad Sahroni, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives. The NasDem politician has urged the Metro Jaya Regional Police and the Jakarta Provincial Government to intensify CCTV installations.

“Incidents like this are very concerning, especially occurring in central Jakarta, which is supposedly heavily secured. Fortunately, there was CCTV recording it. If it happened in a narrow alley or remote location without CCTV, the investigation would certainly be more difficult. Therefore, I urge the Metro Jaya Regional Police to collaborate with the Jakarta Provincial Government to install CCTV as massively as possible throughout the region, especially in vulnerable spots, so that prevention can be carried out more effectively,” Sahroni stated on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.

Furthermore, Sahroni also called on the police to take firm action against all involved muggers.

“For muggers like this, they must be dealt with very firmly. Capture the gang, carry out full criminal proceedings, no such thing as reconciliation or just brief detention. The faces of the perpetrators also need to be publicised as a lesson. This is certainly to give a deterrent effect to muggers so they don’t dare to disrupt security in the capital,” Sahroni asserted.
