Sahroni Supports Increase in Forest Rangers: Proof of Government's Commitment to Protect Forests

Jakarta – Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Commission III, Ahmad Sahroni, supports the government’s move to increase the number of forest rangers (polhut). According to Sahroni, strengthening the Polhut is proof of the state’s commitment to protecting the environment. “I fully support this increase in personnel, and it proves the government’s strong commitment to preserving the forests,” Sahroni said in a written statement on Wednesday, 8 July 2026. The Nasdem Party politician stated that one of the most crucial points in our environmental issues is law enforcement, where perpetrators of illegal logging, forest fires, and even those who set traps for protected wildlife can act freely in the forests. “With this increase in personnel, we hope that such malicious actions can be eradicated,” said Sahroni. Furthermore, Sahroni also encouraged the Ministry of Forestry to cooperate with the National Police in providing training and briefing to the forest rangers. “I also urge the Ministry of Forestry to involve the National Police in the training, development, and capacity-building process for Polhut personnel. This is because the Police’s experience in law enforcement will be a very important asset for personnel in the field,” he said. Sahroni is confident that strong synergy between the Ministry of Forestry, the National Police, and other related parties will make the handling of environmental crimes much more effective. “These forests are a provision for our children’s future, so their protection must be maximised,” said Sahroni. Previously, President Prabowo Subianto announced plans to gradually increase the number of forest rangers to 70,000 personnel. Special Envoy of the President for Energy and Climate, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, stated that the policy to increase the number of forest rangers is part of President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to protecting Indonesia’s forests as a national strategic asset. To this end, the Ministry of Forestry is currently conducting a gradual recruitment of forest rangers.
