Sahroni Supports Increase in Forest Rangers: Proof of Government's Commitment to Protect Forests

Jakarta, VIVA – The Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Emese (DPR RI), Ahmad Sahroni, supports the government’s move to increase the number of forest rangers (Polhut). According to Sahroni, the strengthening of the forest ranger force serves as evidence of the state’s commitment to environmental preservation.

“I fully support this increase in personnel, and this proves the government’s strong commitment to maintaining forest sustainability,” Sahroni stated in a written statement on Wednesday, 8 July 2026.

The Nasdem politician noted that one of the most crucial points in our environmental issues is law enforcement, where perpetrators of illegal logging, forest fires, and the use of snares for protected wildlife can act with impunity within the forests.

“With the addition of personnel, we hope that these various criminal activities can be eradicated,” said Sahron.

Furthermore, Sahroni encouraged the Ministry of Forestry to collaborate with the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to provide training and preparation for the forest rangers.

“I also urge the Ministry of Forestry to involve the National Police in the process of training, coaching, and capacity building for forest ranger personnel. This is because the National Police’s experience in law enforcement will undoubtedly serve as vital equipment for personnel in the field,” he added.

Sahroni is confident that with strong synergy between the Ministry of Forestry, the National Police, and relevant parties, the handling of environmental crimes will be far more effective.

“These forests are the legacy for our children’s future, so their protection must be maximal,” said Sahroni.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto announced plans to gradually increase the number of forest rangers to 70,000 personnel. The Special Envoy to the President for Energy and Climate, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, stated that the policy to increase the number of forest rangers is part of President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to protecting Indonesia’s forests as a national strategic asset.

To this end, the Ministry of Forestry is currently conducting a phased recruitment process for forest rangers.
